The CIRCU-TECH project aims to transform the European aquaculture sector by promoting a circular and sustainable model that enhances profitability, benefits society and protects the environment. It seeks to improve the professional skills of aquaculture staff by providing a training program focused on circular practices in aquaculture waste management, incorporating digital learning tools. The project addresses the increasing concerns about waste generation in the rapidly growing aquaculture industry, aligning with the EU's Circular Economy Package and the EU Green Deal.

The project's core activities include research and analysis, co-creation with stakeholders, development of a roadmap for transitioning to a circular aquaculture model, creating training modules, and developing VR/AR technology for pilot tests. It aims to produce tangible results such as a management system for aquaculture waste, an indicator system to measure circularity, a roadmap for transitioning to a circular model, best practices, training modules with VR/AR tools, and an awareness campaign. The project's innovation lies in its tailored training program for aquaculture workers, utilising a circularity-oriented approach and advanced digital tools to improve waste management practices and promote social acceptance of aquaculture.

AlterContacts brings its expertise in cross-sectoral solutions related to circular economy, climate-resilient and green transition. Our experience in these areas, and a deep understanding of sustainable socio-economic development in the European context (WP2), will be particularly beneficial for developing the training materials (WP3) and mainstreaming project outcomes (WP5).
