In line with the priority focus areas of the 2024 High-Level Political Forum of the United Nations, Think Tank AlterContacts has dedicated its activities of this year to Circularity.

Publication "Towards Circular: Analysis of the Coastal areas of Greece, Italy and Spain"

This collection of articles presents the desktop research a team of twenty online United Nations Volunteers conducted on various aspects of the circular economy, focusing on the coastal areas of Greece, Italy, and Spain. Circular Competence Training for Aquaculture Waste Management using VR and AR Tools (CIRCU-TECH)

The project aims to promote sustainability and the circular economy by creating a tailored training program for aquaculture workers. It seeks to address waste management challenges in aquaculture by developing innovative learning tools and practices using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). It was awarded the ERASMUS+ grant for KA220-VET to be implemented between 2025-2027. Read more here

Circular Economy in Coastal Areas of Mediterranean Europe

In April 2024, we onboarded a team of twenty-three online UN Volunteers to carry out desktop research on various aspects of the circular economy in this region, specifically Greece, Italy, and Spain. We expect to publish the first results of the fieldwork and the academic research by September 2024. We invite you to meet the team here.

UN ECOSOC 2024 Partnership Forum - Side Event

On Jan 30, 2024, together with UNCTAD, Think Tank AlterContacts hosted a virtual side event "Circular Economy for SDGs: Inspiring Transformations Towards Sustainable, Resilient, and Innovative Solutions". It presented the circular economy as a holistic framework that reinforces the principles of the 2030 Agenda, addressing poverty eradication, resilience, and innovation in the face of multiple crises. Kilometro Circular Case Study

Between November 2023 and August 2024, AlterContacts has actively supported Bio Oceans Solutions Hub in shaping 'Kilometro Circular.' It is a not-for-profit initiative promoting the just transition to the circular economy in the European Union and worldwide. Our experts have prepared this initiative to qualify as a United Nations-registered SDG Action. We have also showcased it at the highest policymaking level of the UN ECOSOC Partnership Forum. Advance Expert Program in Blue and Circular Economy

Led by Professor Dr. Pedro Fernández Carrasco of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a new educational program was designed. It brings together expertise of more than twenty universities on several continents.
